ABSTRACT

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 forced education to migrate to remote teaching. The objective of the research was to measure the satisfaction of university teachers performing their functions through teledocency. A quantitative, descriptive and non-experimental cross-sectional methodology was used to categorize job satisfaction. The Multidimensional Scale of Teacher Job Satisfaction was used as a measuring instrument with reliability levels: a) Cronbach's Alpha 0.95, b) reliability by halves, according to the Spearman-Brown formula, 0.95. applied to a convenience sample of 146 teachers from the pu-blic and private sector, the data were processed through SPSS Statistics software, using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the variables that make up job satisfaction were categorized by teachers as follows: Interpersonal relationships 67%, Professional performance 67%, Physical environment (home) 61%, Management team 54%, Organizational factors 53%, Appraisal of work performed 51%, Participation 45% and Working conditions 41%. In general, it is concluded that tea-chers are satisfied in the performance of their duties through the tele-teaching modality;at the same time, opportunities were found that could have an impact on reducing non-satisfaction.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Upon completion of this research, there was no evidence of studies addressing self-reported periodontal disease in Cuba, nor any antecedent of research relating it to COVID-19 in adults over 60. Objective: To determine the relationship between self-reported periodontal disease, dental loss, and COVID-19 activity. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional investigation was carried out. The sample included 238 individuals aged over 60 who were infected with COVID-19, and survived. They gave their consent. The study was performed for over 1 year in Playa municipality of Havana, Cuba. Variables such as gender, age, COVID-19 evolutionary severity, comorbidities, and self-reported periodontal disease were used. A validated 4-question survey was applied to identify the periodontal disease and all data were processed in a database. Some variables were dichotomized to perform the odds ratio and Pearson's Chi-squared test, and determine the relationship between possible risk factors and the evolutionary severity of COVID-19. Results: As a result, the odds ratio values and confidence intervals for periodontal disease and advanced periodontal disease were 1.598 (0.261;9.78) and 1.814 (0.296;11.105) respectively, and the p-values were 0.609 and 0.514 respectively. Conclusion: A relationship between periodontal disease and the evolutionary severity of COVID-19 cannot be established. However, a relationship was observed targeting dental loss and respiratory diseases as determinant risk factors in the severity of COVID-19. © 2022, Editorial Ciencias Medicas. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

We present a multicenter study conducted through an online survey of 1826 families of people with ASD from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. Our objective is to describe the impact of the pandemic -and social isolation- on the behavior, mood, sleep and diet of people with ASD. To this end, we have surveyed sociodemographic and housing characteristics and the modality of confinement. We analyze the effects of discontinuity in educational and therapeutic services and assess the scope of remote interventions. Some of the consequences of confinement -obligatory for the majority- has been increased irritability in people with ASD, increased wandering behavior, higher levels of anxiety, and difficulties in eating, sleeping and concentrating. Most of the families have noticed setbacks in their children during the confinement. The beneficial effects of outings and walks are highlighted. Many treatments and classes have been discontinued. Remote interventions are positively highlighted. The current crisis should be an opportunity to reorganize education and treatment devices, attending to the need for changes, with a more ecological, inclusive and autism-friendly perspective. © 2021 University of Salamanca. ABSTRACT

Introduction. The COVID-19 lockdown has posed new challenges for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including service suspension and reductions in support. Objective. To explore the perspectives of caregivers on the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on people with ASD in Mexico. Method. 126 caregivers from Mexico completed a survey on the impact of lockdown on people with ASD. Results. Suspension of at least one service was reported for 38.9% of subjects, with no significant association being found between symptom worsening and service administration modality. Discussion and conclusion. Service suspension for people with ASD in Mexico has been a side effect of the pandemic, negatively impacting their behavior. Results indicate that certain services could be remotely maintained and provided to individuals with ASD in underserved areas © 2022. Salud Mental.All Rights Reserved.
